What is 2 b hair
You may have always identified yourself with having curly hair because your strands have a movement to it but it may not be until recently you’ve discovered an entire library of identifiers that qualify true curly hair. 2B hair is generalized as having a wave in your hair when your hair creates an “S” shape to show off texture but it does not start to spiral into a curl or coil.
How is curly hair different?
Hair starts a curvature through the shape of your hair follicle. Hair follicles that have a near perfect circle have extremely straight hair and as that follicle shape starts to flatten and create an oval shape the curlier hair you will have.
Those with curly hair have an oval shaped hair follicle and find that their outer layer, cuticle, are inherently weaker due to the curvatures that take place while creating the stronger “S” and “C” shaped coils.
How often should you shampoo 2B hair?
2 B hair should be shampooed every two to three days depending on overall lifestyle, where there can be some exceptions. However, this hair type will be more prone to dehydration and should retain natural oils as long as it is in moderation.
How to manage 2B frizz?
Frizz is a common characteristic of those with a 2B hair. The reason for that is that it tends to become dehydrated very easily. Choosing products that are hydrating but do not cause hair to become layered or heavy will be ideal with those with this hair type.
The additional dehydration may be caused by hair styling heat tools to manipulate the hair texture to increase the curl or to straighten it rather than wearing the natural beach wave style that is effortless for this hair type.
Should I brush my 2B hair?
All curly hair including those with slight movement like a 2B should only be combed and detangled when the hair is wet. When hair is wet and primed with a conditioner the hair becomes pliable and easy to work with, especially to detangle strands as they become intertwined due to the curl pattern.
When you choose to comb or brush wavy or curly hair when it is dry it can cause tension breakage as the hair catches on itself as it intertwines and dries. While those with straight hair will avoid combing hair when wet, because dry hair is favored.
